Community notice

We wish to advise that individuals who recently visited stores within Watergardens Shopping Centre have now been confirmed to have COVID-19. As a result, COVID-19 exposure sites have been identified at the Centre. 

Saturday, 4 September 

  • Chemist Warehouse between 7:50am - 1:30pm (Tier 1 exposure site)

Monday, 6 September 

  • Chemist Warehouse between 4:50pm - 9:30pm (Tier 1 exposure site)

Tuesday, 7 September 

  • Chemist Warehouse between 4:45pm - 9:30pm (Tier 1 exposure site)

If you have visited a Tier 1 exposure site during the times listed must immediately isolate, get a COVID-19 test, and quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure. 

These retailers are being guided by the DHHS in their response, including undertaking deep cleans of their tenancies and sending staff members home to be tested.

The health and wellbeing of our entire community is our top priority, which is why we are taking this situation very seriously. Please see below for more information on what we are doing to help keep our community safe.

We will be guided by the DHHS in any next steps we need to take in managing this situation safely, including additional deep cleaning and contact tracing.

Changes to Watergardens in accordance with the Victorian Government lockdown

The Victorian Government has announced that the current lockdown will be extended until 70% of Victorians receive their first dose of the vaccine, which is expected to be around 23 September 2021.

As has been the case throughout the pandemic period, Watergardens will remain open and trading during this lockdown, serving the essential needs of those that choose to visit us.

This lockdown has resulted in a few changes at Watergardens, with only essential goods and services permitted to trade during this time including:

  • Supermarkets and grocery shops, including all food and liquor stores
  • Restaurants and cafes for delivery and contactless takeaway only
  • Medical Centres for appointments that cannot be undertaken virtually
  • Pharmacies
  • Medicare and/or Centrelink
  • Bank branches
  • Convenience stores and newsagents
  • Post offices
  • Laundry and dry cleaners

The Victorian Government has also announced that a curfew is now in place across metropolitan Melbourne, which will be in place from 9:00pm to 5:00am every night. This curfew means that some of our retailers may reduce or otherwise change their trading hours. We encourage you to contact retailers directly for the most recent information on individual retailers’ trading hours before visiting.

Please note that our café and restaurant retailers are permitted to remain open, offering takeaway and home delivery services only. Details of café and restaurant retailers offering takeaway and food delivery is available here:

While many of our food court retailers may choose to remain open for takeaway and delivery services, we note that our food court seating will temporarily close. Our play areas will also temporarily close.

Furthermore, non-essential retailers who offer a click and collect or online service are permitted to remain open for the purposes of fulfilling these orders only. Details of retailers offering click & collect services is available here:

We also ask that you please remember to check in should you visit our centre, and at each retailer, by using the Service Victoria QR code app. Signage has been posted throughout the Centre for your convenience.

Keeping you safe at Watergardens

Our community’s health and wellbeing is our overriding priority and we continue to maintain a range of measures to help keep you safe when you visit Watergardens. These include:

  • Strengthening our already stringent cleaning processes, including a heightened focus on sanitising high-touch points with high-grade disinfectant, as well as increasing the number of cleaning rotations each day.
  • Placement of hand sanitiser stations at key locations throughout the centre, including our main centre entrances and Customer Service Desk for our entire community to access.

  • Installation of signage across our Centre, reminding our community to keep 1.5 metres between themselves and others at all times, as well as the placement of Australian Government-issued information posters in our bathrooms which outline crucial information on how you can help stop the spread of COVID-19.

  • Contactless wayfinding, available at our Centre directories, allowing you to scan a QR code on your mobile to find any store in the Centre.

  • Continuation of our Order and Collect service, allowing you to order from your preferred Watergardens stores and have your order delivered directly to your car. Find out more here.


How you can help

While visiting Watergardens, we ask that you continue to play your role in keeping our community safe. This means:

  • Social distancing – always keep at least 1.5 metres between yourself and others.

  • Exemplary personal hygiene – wash your hands regularly and use the sanitiser stations located throughout the Centre for your convenience.
  • Handling illness safely – cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and, most importantly, stay at home if you’re feeling unwell.

  • Adhere to capacity guidelines – Please adhere to retailer maximum capacity numbers which are outlined at their store entrance. Customers are allowed in our Food Court, whilst still adhering to the 1.5 metres distance rule.

  • Plan your visit - due to restricted numbers in our restaurants, beauty salons, gyms and cinema, please ensure you contact individual retailers to book your visit.

Mandatory face masks

If you choose to visit us during this time, please remember that you must continue to wear a mask at all times while visiting our Centre, unless:

• You are under 12
• You have a medical condition that prohibits the wearing of a face mask
• It’s not practical
• For professional reasons.

Please make sure you check in using the free Service Victoria QR Code app when you enter Watergardens and at each of the stores you visit.

You may notice one of our friendly Centre team members at one of our entrances, who are there to encourage our community to check in while visiting Watergardens.

Watergardens Social Distancing Ambassadors

We’re pleased to be able to welcome specially selected Social Distancing Ambassadors to Watergardens. These Ambassadors will roam our malls and provide a reminder of the need to keep a 1.5 metre distance from others.

Our dedicated Ambassadors, dressed in an easily identifiable uniform, are trained to offer friendly and approachable direction to both customers and retailers around correct social distancing and responsible queuing. By fielding questions and reminding visitors to the Centre to maintain social distancing, these roving Ambassadors will relieve pressure in our malls. 

Our security, cleaning and customer service staff will also take on the responsibility of dispensing social distancing advice to ensure maximum coverage across the Centre.
