Here's a step-by-step recipe from East West Asian Grocery to show you how easy and fun it is to make authentic dumplings from the comfort of your home.

PORK & CHIVE DUMPLINGS

Ingredients:

• 800g pork mince
• ½ cup finely chopped chives
• 2cm piece ginger, grated
• ¼ tsp sesame oil
• 2 tsp soy sauce
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp ground black pepper
• 500g (50 wrappers) packet round dumpling/gyoza wrappers
• 1 tbsp vegetable/sunflower oil, to cook

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients (except chives, vegetable/sunflower oil and wrappers) in a large bowl, mix well then stir in chives last.
  2. Place a slightly rounded teaspoon of filling in centre of a dumpling/gyoza wrapper and moisten area around filling with water. Fold in half to form a crescent and press to seal. Moisten one corner and bring corners together, pressing them, to form a tortellini-shaped dumpling. Repeat with remaining filling and wrappers.
  3. Cook and stir dumplings in a large pot of gently simmering water and dash of oil until pork is just cooked, approximately 3 minutes when the dumplings float to the top then appear swollen. Transfer with a slotted spoon to a platter.
  4. Serve with your choice of sides; Vegetable stir fry, Chinese broccoli or Soy sauce fried rice

Notes:

  • All ingredients can be found at East West Asian Grocery
  • Cook dumplings in batches to ensure enough space to cook evenly
  • Dumplings can be formed (but not cooked) 2 hours ahead and chilled
